True West Films Ltd. (TWF) develops and produces feature films, television series and documentaries. The company was founded in April 2002 by President Elizabeth Yake and focuses on creating high-quality entertaining products for the world market with a particular emphasis on international co-productions.

TWF’s first film IT’S ALL GONE PETE TONG directed by Mike Dowse (FUBAR) was a Canada/UK co-production, which premiered at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival, winning Best Canadian Feature and was named one of CANADA’S TOP TEN FILMS for 2004. IT’S ALL GONE PETE TONG enjoyed successful theatrical releases in 2005 in Canada, the UK and the USA among others. Further awards include Best Feature and Best Actor at the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen; Grand Jury Award for Best Feature and Audience Award at the Gen Art Film Festival in New York City; three LEO Awards in BC including Best Feature-Length Drama; and 8 GENIE (Canadian Oscars) Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.

Also in 2004, TWF successfully delivered its first service production, the mini-series MISS TEXAS for German broadcaster SAT.1 and Studio Hamburg.

TWF ‘s latest feature EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN a co-production with Radke Films in Toronto, directed by Paul Fox (THE DARK HOURS), starring Paulo Costanzo (JOEY), and based on the first original screenplay by renown author Douglas Coupland (GENERATION X) was released in Canada by Equinoxe Films and in the USA by First Independent Pictures (Gary Rubin) in 2007. EVERYTHING’S GONE GREEN won the CITY TV JURY Award for Best Canadian Film at the 2006 Vancouver International Film Festival and the CITY TV Award for Best Canadian Film at the 2006 Edmonton International Film Festival; LEO AWARDS for Best Screenplay and Best Feature length Drama; and a GENIE Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

TWF has just completed the one-hour TV documentary, ROLL OVER BEETHVEN, for BRAVO/CTV which explores how audiences and classical experts in Canada and around the globe respond to a Métis classical music teacher Paul Verville’s contention that one of the variations in Beethoven’s last, greatest and most difficult piano sonata, Opus 111, has been played in the wrong time signature for 190 years.

Most recently, TWF is developing its first television series, EXTINCTION EVENT, a 2 x 2 hour mini-series, based on an original concept with writer/creator Douglas Coupland, in coproduction with Muse Entertainment (Montréal). TWF are also developing the feature film HOW TO CHANGE EVERTHING WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING with writer/director Kris Lefcoe (PUBLIC DOMAIN, CAN I GET A WITNESS?)
