A philosophical comedy about a pathologically distracted young woman who accidentally starts a cult.
Twenty-two year old Wendy Stark is bright and beautiful, but paralyzed by extreme attention deficiency. Haunted by the melancholy of her welfare-assigned “life coach” Michael Kardassio, Wendy is inspired to take action for the first time in her life. She concocts a cable access infomercial on lucid dreaming with a seductive message - do nothing, yet control everything, through the emancipatory power of sleep. Wendy’s broadcast becomes an instant sensation, and she recruits Kardassio to help run her expanding business empire.
But when a group of her “followers” start falling into self-induced comas, Wendy foresees the terrifying outcome of the “cult of sleep” she’s created. And when Kardassio succumbs to the lure of eternal slumber himself, Wendy puts her ideas to a radical test, attempting to dream her way into Kardassio’s coma and save him. This extra-dimensional love story satirizes the complacency of the information age and the rapid acceleration of our culture and inspires us to find the messiah in ourselves.
