Roll Over Beethoven |
Paul Verville,
a Métis classical music teacher who lives on Salt Spring
Island, BC, walked away from a promising career as a concert
pianist 30 years ago. But last November, Paul discovered that
the Third Variation of Beethoven’s last and greatest
piano sonata, Opus 111, has been being played in the wrong
time signature for almost 200 years. As rock legend Randy
Bachman (The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive) said about
Paul’s discovery, “It’s one of those rare
things, like finding a recording of Elvis that no one’s
heard before, and you bring it to the world.” (The National
Post, Jan. 6th, 2005.)

Growth Rings: Elders of the West Coast Woods |
|
This
lyrical, collage style documentary will feature the wisdom,
work and art of three elder woodsmen: Bus Griffiths, 90, retired
logger and visual artist; Merve Wilkinson, 89, logger, eco-forester
and educator; and George Sawchuk, 76, logger and chainsaw
revolutionary artist. The focus of this unusual logger's legacy
will explore the roots and future of our evolving relationship
with the elderly and the natural world. Each of these three
woodsmen posses a sense of humour, wisdom and a youthful energy
that make them charming, funny and compelling subjects.
